This is so incredibly rad my brain hurts. Wanting to further extend their independence from France, French Polynesian president Oscar Temaru has proposed they change the name of their island to Maohi Nui, the name of the original indigenous people.
Which is fine, unless you live in the Marquesas Islands in which Maohi is pretty much the word for muff. So basically, this is like if New Zealand decided to rename South Island something like Boner City or Norks Point.
“Fuck Tahiti, we’re hittin’ Muff Island!”
